US Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer demanded that US President Donald Trump reverse an executive order targeting immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries, saying it makes the United States appear "less humanitarian, less safe, less American."

"It must be reversed immediately, and Democrats are going to introduce legislation to overturn it," Reuters cited Schumer as saying.

Schumer blasted Trump after the president signed an executive order that halted the country's refugee resettlement program for 120 days and banned Syrian refugees from the US indefinitely. People from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya are also prohibited from entering the US for 90 days.
