Russia should initiate the implementation of economic and energy cooperation as well as cybersecurity into the bilateral agenda with the United States, which may be beneficial to the relations between the two countries, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian upper house of parliament Konstantin Kosachev said Thursday, Sputnik reports.

According to Kosachev, initiating the cooperation in spheres that were of interest for both countries would allow for effective cooperation.

"What kind of spheres? Nuclear weapons, disarmament, security, combating international terrorism, cybersecurity… and, of course, the economy. The economy have not played any role in our relations, and this is bad," Kosachev said.

Kosachev stated that Russia's share in US foreign trade turnover of the United States does not exceed 1.5 percent, that is why "economy, energy cooperation, high-tech industries shall be implemented in our bilateral agenda upon our initiative."

He also added that Russia should stop being passive and start to actively propose the bilateral agenda that would be within Russian national interests.
