Russian and Turkish FMs discuss Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed on Thursday the situation in Syria during a phone conversation, the Turkish NTV broadcaster reported, citing a diplomatic source.

The Foreign Ministers discussed "the implementation of agreements on the maintenance of the cessation of hostilities in Syria and facilitation to the establishment of effective negotiations between the government and the opposition in Astana and Geneva," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Along with Iran, Russia and Turkey were also mediators of the intra-Syrian talks that took place in the Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana on January 23 – 24.
