Russia to mark 75th anniversary of victory in Battle of Stalingrad

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the executive order on celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the victory by the Soviet Army in the Battle of Stalingrad against Nazi German troops.

"Considering the fact that the victory by the Soviet Army in the Battle of Stalingrad made a major contribution to achieving victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, and to mark the 75th anniversary of this historic event on February 2, 2018, the President accepted the proposal by the Government of the Russian Federation to celebrate in 2018 the 75th anniversary of victory by the Soviet Army in the Battle of Stalingrad against Nazi German troops," the order says.

The President’s Executive Order also provides for establishing an Organising Committee that will be in charge of preparing and holding celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of victory by the Soviet Army in the Battle of Stalingrad against Nazi German troops, and the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin was appointed Chairman of the Organising Committee.

The President instructed the Government to appoint other members of the Organising Committee who will be in charge of preparing and holding celebrations.
