Matvienko says Russia will not be drawn into arms race

Russia will not to be drawn into an arms race, the speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, Valentina Matvienko, said.

"Russia will not be drawn into an arms race, we will analyze the situation and take measures sufficient to ensure national security," Sputnik cited Matvienko as saying.

Commenting on the US administration's plans to increase defense spending, Matvienko stressed that 'states' efforts should be aimed at disarmament.
