Otto Hauser, the Honored Envoy of Azerbaijan to Germany, expressed his extreme regret at the Bundestag’s decision on Azerbaijan last week in his press release which was delivered to the European office of Vestnik Kavkaza. According to him, the statements in the document have nothing in common with reality.
For example, Hauser criticizes the fact that, due to ignoring the social reality in Azerbaijan, a corrupt image of the country has been presented. The fact that the document doesn’t assess religious tolerance and the peaceful existence of religions means that the authors of the document either don’t know about it or deliberately ignore these facts. Accusations of a deficit of freedom of speech are easily disproved by reminding that Azerbaijan provides unlimited access to the internet and all social networks. Those who speak about violation of freedom of speech don’t know the situation in the country.
Otto Hauser is a former member of the Bundestag (for 16 years), and he knows that a very large section of MPs don’t support the resolution. Only about 30 people participated in the vote for the document last Friday. This makes acase against the document and the statements in it.
Being the Honorary Envoy, Otto Hauser wants to work for the prosperity of Azerbaijan and continue a dialogue with German MPs. He is sure that the misunderstanding will be eliminated in the very near future.
I remind you that on June 12th – the day of the beginning of the First European Games – the Bundestag of Germany adopted a resolution titled ‘Demanding Protection of Human Rights in Azerbaijan.’ The Baku authorities reacted with pain to the attack by their German partners, which was part of a massive information offensive by the West against Azerbaijan during the holding of such a wide-scale sporting event in the country. The German ambassador received a protest note in Baku. Nobody knows whether the resolution by the German parliament will influence the fate of the arrested members of 'civil society', who are supported by the West and accused of fiscal evasion and financial frauds. According to an MP of the Azerbaijani parliament, Rasim Musabekov, “the resolution didn’t threat anyone, on the contrary it will make dialogue and chances for mutual understanding on this delicate issue even more difficult.”
