The situation surrounding the upcoming parliamentary elections in the North Caucasus is a rather interesting one. On the one hand, the people aren’t informed enough about the political process in the country, including the coming primaries organized by the All-Russian People’s Front. On the other hand, the people appreciate the idea of such vote, as it seem quite common to their traditional democratic institutions, which date back to the earliest times.
According to young political activists, the problems existing in the North Caucasus are based mainly on the unwise governmental policy towards the young. Timur Sageyev, the local leader of the 'United Russia’ youth association, says primaries will contribute to the development of the political system and allow young and ambitious people to enter legislatures. That’s very important for the country, Sageyev believes. He even told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin so at the chief official’s meeting with Caucasian youth.
At the same time the Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, doesn’t understand young people’s desire to enter government bodies. Salaries there are low and the responsibility is extraordinary, he says.
Still, Prime Minister Putin supports young people’s ambitions. He says that the All-Russian People’s Front should allow young and talented people to enter local and federal legislative and executive bodies. It’s necessary to include young people in the All-Russian People’s Front’s ballot, the Prime Minister told the assembled officials at a meeting of the governmental commission for the development of the North Caucasus.
Young activists complain that it’s very hard to compete with skillful and experienced politicians. However, the position of the All-Russian People’s Front is quite certain: experienced politicians should remain in legislatures.
