The majority of experts in both Israel and the USA believe that the Israeli authorities have already decided that an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities is necessary.
That's the only possible explanation for the fact that major Israeli political forces have agreed to cancel elections and established a 'government of national unity.'
It's quite clear that Shaul Mofaz, the head of the opposition Kadima party, has destroyed his own political career and the reputation of his whole party which holds a lot of parliamentary mandates after he agreed to support Netanyahu's course. Only two months ago Mofaz swore that he would never agree on any coalition with Netanyahu whom he called a ‘cheat’.
But all that changed literally overnight: Mofaz joined the coalition and got… the post of a minister without portfolio, becoming everyone’s laughingstock. As he himself said to a press-conference after the meeting where he took this decision, “there are moments in a nation’s history when the unity is more important than personal careers”. What ‘moment’ could he imply other than the strike against Iranian nuclear facilities?
Observers also point out that it’s the widest coalition in all the 64 years of Israel’s history, while the current government is the most militarized of all. It seams that the senior officer in this government, Ehud Barak is the one to take the final decision, and he has always shown himself an advocate of a military resolution to the Iranian problem.
Other facts that points to the possible war preparations are that Netanyahu’s government devotes one day a week to discuss issues of civic missile defense, while the head of the Israeli Air Force said last week that ‘hard ordeal lies ahead of the Israeli pilots’.
All these developments show that Israel is probably preparing for a strike.
