Ingushetia has started preparations to celebrate a great holiday – the 65th anniversary of victory in World War Two.
This tiny republic sent more than six thousand officers and soldiers to the front. About two thousand Ingush people never returned from the war. For a long time, Soviet officials didn’t speak about this contribution of the repressed people to victory. Today though the nation returns to its forgotten heroes.
A red marble monument in Nazran, the republic’s largest city, to honor the soldiers who died in the war is currently under reconstruction. The head of local administration, Bayali Ozdoev, confirmed that work will be completed before May 9 – Victory Day.
Not long ago there was a monument of a soldier holding an automatic weapon on the main street of the city. But somehow, several years ago, his weapon just disappeared, and the monument gave place to an expressionless column with the Eternal Flame in front of it. To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the victory, the republic’s officials have decided to erect a memorial.
The structure of the memorial will consist of two 5-meter high marble arcades (each of them consisted of 6 arcs) erected in a semicircle with a 14-meter tower crowning the structure. There will also be marble "churta" (Ingush traditional grave-stones) with the names of heroes engraved on them. The Eternal Flame will be circled with bronze, and the bottom of the memorial will be paved with cubes. Landscape designers have been tasked with improving the surrounding area. The territory of the memorial will be illuminated at night.
Due to the complicated ached structure of the monument the most experienced building company will work on the realization of this project. Nazran authorities believe that citizens will be proud of the new memorial and it will do a good job of reminding them of the great victory.
