11th Mstislav Rostropovich International Festival

The 11th Mstislav Rostropovich International Festival will start in Moscow on March 27 and will last until April 3. This year the largest part of the festival programme will take place in the Great Hall of the Conservatory, and on April 3 - in the State Kremlin Palace.

"This is a new site for us, we have never used it before. This is exciting because, acoustically, this is not a platform for classical music. But unfortunately we did not have a choice, because we are presenting a multimedia project 'Roman Trilogy' by Ottorino Respighi with 3D computer projections directed by the Spanish director Carlus Padrissa for the first time in Russia. The project 'Roman Trilogy' was created in co-production with El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, Valencia, and Teatro dell'Opera di Roma at the Terme di Caracalla. It was met with great success all over the world, but Russia will see it for the first time," the artistic director of the festival, president of the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation for Cultural and Humanitarian Programs Olga Rostropovich said.

The festival will open on March 27, on this day Mstislav Rostropovich would have turned 91. The opening program is fully dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev - this year marks the 65th anniversary of his death. "Sergey Sergeevich was my father's teacher, my father's mentor, he used to idolize this man. They shared not just creative but also human friendship. My dad spent several years at Sergei Prokofiev's guest house. The symphony concert which will be performed at the opening of thefestival, was written with the direct participation of my father, who was the first and only performer of this symphony concert for many years. Sergei Sergeyevich wrote on the manuscript paper: "Goes out to an outstanding talent of Mstislav Rostropovich in memory of joint work on the concert," Olga Rostropovich said.

On March 29, the Great Hall of the Conservatory will host a concert of the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin with soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. The orchestra was formed not so long ago, but has already won the recognition of music lovers around the world.

On April 1, a concert of the permanent participant and partner of the festival will be held - the Russian National Orchestra and its artistic director Mikhail Pletnev, who will perform Scriabin's piano concerto. The concert will be entirely devoted to Russian music. The program includes the Scheherazade Symphonic Suite, Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet and Scriabin's Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor, op. 20.

On April 2, the Orchestra KlangVerwaltung, Chorus KlangVerwaltung and Munich Boys Choir will perform in Russia for the first time. The audience will hear one of the most ambitious works in musical history - Bach's St Matthew Passion.

On April 3, the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Singing Centre will host a private screening of Bruno Monsaingeon's new film, many know his film 'Richter: The Enigma'.  Bruno made a documentary film 'Mstislav Rostropovich: The Indomitable Bow' timed to my father's last birthday, the premiere of which took place in November in Paris. In February, the film was shown at the documentary festival in New York, and recently was awarded at the Montreal International Documentary Festival as the year's best documentary."
