The Great Hall of the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature named after Margarita Ivanovna Rudomino hosted the presentation of the two-volume book 'Anthology of Modern Azerbaijani Literature', which was prepared by the Education Centre under the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan. The two-volume book is published in the framework of the large-scale project 'Promotion of National Literature Abroad', on which the Translation Centre is currently working.

"Why did we start with the anthology? Because the literature of Azerbaijan has never been presented in Russia or abroad in such a format. Here we chose the most prominent, famous, talented writers, as well as young ones characterized by talent. And another distinctive feature of the two volume book is that it also includes the works of those authors, poets and writers who have never been published either in Russia or abroad. Currently the anthology is being translated into Arabic, French, Turkish, German and Spanish. The edition in Cairo is expected in January next year. By the spring in Ankara in the Turkish language, then in Belarus in the Belarusian language, and we will continue to translate and print it," the Director of the Translation Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic, Afag Masud, told Vestnik Kavkaza.

The event was attended by representatives of the Writers' Union of Moscow, the embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia and the Azerbaijani Culture Center, as well as famous Russian poets and writers, cultural and scientific figures.

"Nothing will help us to establish some sort of mutual understanding, understand what is happening around us, how we can live in such a complex, stormy world, better than the knowledge of the literature and culture of each other. The thing is that we believe that such activities as the presentation of the literature of another nation in such a comprehensive two-volume edition – it is very important and it provides a good picture of what is going on in Azerbaijani literature, in the school of translation. It is also very important. We are losing the school of translation. For example, the Library of Foreign Literature is doing a lot to revive the school of translation, to educate young translators and to use it, of course, in the presentation of each others literature," the Deputy Director General of the Hall of the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature named after Margarita Ivanovna Rudomino, Svetlana Gorokhova, told Vestnik Kavkaza.
