The independent publication Axis of Logic writes about why Russia is serious about combating terrorism in Syria, while the US is not. From the beginning of Russia's participation in the Syrian campaign it became clear that Moscow is much better at countering terrorism than Washington. As a result of the alleged bombing of ISIS by the US forces, the terrorist organization has strengthened further its position and captured, for example, the ancient city of Palmyra a few months ago, which is included among the UNESCO world inheritance sites.
Despite the fact that the US government has acknowledged that it is impossible to defeat ISIS without ground troops, it has refused to work with the Syrian military, the only force "on the ground" under the command of a single UN recognized government in Syria, which is struggling with a terrorist organization. On the other hand, Russia is coordinating with the Syrian forces action, achieving significant results in the restoration of the state of Syria. These strategic differences show that there is no clear line from the United States in relation to the real intentions of the US leadership about fighting terrorism. Washington is capable of doing much, the US Army is the most powerful and technologically advanced in the world, and it is logical to assume that the USA hides its real targets in Syria under the pretext of fighting ISIS.
The main objective of the US in Syria is to change the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which will isolate the influence of Russia in the region, as well as create a new puppet state under the control of the USA. The US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has openly stated that the top priority of the US policy in the SAR is the ‘removal of Assad.’ For America, the leadership of the Syrian state is one of the spheres of influence of Russia outside the former Soviet Union, which represents a geopolitical threat to Washington. The ISIS presence in the country allows the US to be present in the region under the pretext of combating terrorism. In fact, the phenomenon of the emergence of Islamic State is associated with the actions of the Americans in Iraq and Libya.
Since 2013 the CIA has prepared about 10 thousand of the rebels who are now fighting in Syria. However, despite all the efforts of the US, by entering the Syrian campaign Russia has provided a chance to save the statehood of the country. In fact, by starting military actions in Syria, Moscow acted as a guarantor that the Libyan scenario will not be repeated, and, in addition, the interests of the fight against terrorism are directly related to their own national security. While Washington continues to fund and arm the terrorists, the Kremlin actively opposes them, and is making progress in this direction. In fact, the United States maneuvered itself into a corner, using terrorism as a means of struggle against the Russian sphere of influence. How much longer such a manipulation of concepts will continue from the American side is unknown, but it is clear that the success is on the side of Russia.
The US media resource CNBC writes about why the success of the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program will not be repeated in North Korea. The fact is that the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program reached in 2015 inspired confidence in resolving the North Korean problem in many world powers. However, between Iran and North Korea there is a number of significant differences, which do not allow for negotiations on the nuclear program of the latter.
World leaders want to put an end to the impasse over Pyongyang, as the country's militancy causes concern in the international community: a fourth nuclear test was carried out in January, and a long-range missile was launched at the beginning of this month, violating the UN resolution. The multilateral talks on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula reached an impasse in 2009, and in 2012 the state declared itself a nuclear power, despite the severe international sanctions.
A resumption of negotiations is unlikely, since the interests of the sides are diametrically opposed. In addition, Pyongyang cooperates with Beijing, and is not dependent on foreign trade and access to the international financial system, as it was in its time with Iran. However, South Korean media reported on Monday that some Chinese banks have frozen accounts belonging to North Korea, and perhaps this gives a chance for the international community to resolve the situation regarding Pyongyang.
