The US independent publication Breitbart wrote about what awaits the world if the cold war between Russia and the US will grow into a full-scale confrontation. Militaristic games between the states lead to an exacerbation of the already tense situation in the world, as well as contribute to strengthening the atmosphere of mistrust. There are signs that NATO is preparing for military action against Russia, and Moscow, in turn, knowing this, is ready to strike back if the threat from the United States begins to show signs of military aggression.
None of the exercises planned by NATO this year are peaceful in nature and only serve to remind Russia that the United States and its allied countries are ready to strike at any moment. As the most vulnerable points America choses Poland and the Baltic countries, which openly express support for Washington. The anti-Russian propaganda plays into the hands of the US and Europe, but such speculation becomes a geopolitical threat to the entire world, which has not yet realized the full gravity of the situation.
If one of the parties makes just one mistake against the other, the world community will have to build a new way of its foreign policy in support of a particular state. So far, the US and NATO have not gone beyond demonstrating their power, while Russia is fighting the Western aggression with the aid of economic and strategic means. Unfortunately, America has chosen the wrong enemy against which to fight, thus giving ISIS a chance to take over not only the situation in the Middle East, but eventually throughout the world.
Today's edition of the New York Times wrote about why Turkey is fighting the Kurds, who are battling ISIS. On July 24 Turkey declared war against Islamic State and since then has carried out several air strikes on positions of the Kurdish rebels. But the fact is that the Kurds that they are fighting are allies of the United States and they have been managing to deflect the blows of the terrorist organization, thus pushing ISIS out of the areas they had once controlled.
The Kurdish military forces have been coordinating their actions with Washington since last October, making common strikes against Islamic State. Thanks to the coordinated actions of the US-Kurdish coalition, the Kurds have managed to gain control of the border area with Turkey. The People's Self-Defense Units (YPG), the armed wing of the Supreme Kurdish Committee, perhaps the most powerful ally in the fight against Daesh, but after Turkey joined the fight against terrorism, the White House changed priorities. Turkey now has the opportunity to openly confront the Kurds under the pretext of fighting ISIS. This allows the US to gain control of Syria, and the Turkish leadership to solve the Kurdish problem, in addition to gaining a majority in the Turkish Parliament.
There is no precise data on how effective the air strikes on the ISIS positions have been, but it is a clear fact that the Kurdish population is suffering losses. The way the situation will develop in the future remains unknown, but it is obvious that neither the American nor the Turkish sides have taken effective steps to combat ISIS yet.
