According to Spiegel Online, the German defense ministry has allocated a considerable sum to invest in the air base in the Turkish city of Incirlik. After several months of quarrels and conflicts, Ankara and Berlin agreed to continue the participation of the German military in the coalition fighting the terrorism of Daesh.
Germany will invest €58 million in order to improve the military base of Incirlik.€26 million will be spent on the construction of its own airfield for Tornado reconnaissance aircraft, as well as the construction of residential containers for Bundeswehr soldiers. The remaining funds will be spent on the construction of a mobile command and observation post in accordance with modern standards.
According to the military, these investments are urgently needed because until now the Germans have been forced to park their reconnaissance planes at the American sites, and live in temporary shelters. When carrying out reconnaissance missions they entirely depend on the support of their allies.
The decision to allocate many millions on improving the air base in Turkey was a new indication that the German government and Ankara have overcome the serious crisis in their relations arising after the German Bundestag adopted the resolution on "the Armenian genocide". It is expected that in the near future German deputies will pay a visit to Turkey to see the Incirlik base. Recall that after the adoption of the resolution the Turkish side under various pretexts refused to allow German MPs to visit Bundeswehr soldiers at the airbase.
