CIS Premiers released from routine

The upcoming session of the Council of Heads of Governments of the CIS countries in Minsk will be the first after the September summit of the CIS in Bishkek where leaders of the states decided to release themselves and their prime ministers from dealing with insignificant current issues. According to Andrey Kushnirenko, the Director of the Economic Development Department of the Executive Council of the CIS, economic problems will dominate at the meeting of Premiers for the first time: “Earlier it was 50x50. But on Friday, 90 per cent of all issues will be connected with economics. Insignificant issues on implementation of some processes and a routine agenda were eliminated. Only deep and significant issues remained.”

Kushnirenko marked two groups of issues. The first group is devoted to implementation of the Free Trade Zone Treaty of the CIS, which was signed on October 18th, 2011, by the Commonwealth’s states. At the moment, 9 of 11 states are sides of the Treaty. The second group is about cooperation in decision making, implementation, and experience exchange on anti-crisis measures.

“Premiers are going to sign four agreements on development of cooperation in the spheres which have never been mention in any cooperation treaties before. They are agreements on cooperation in the sphere of mining metallurgy, motor industry, anti-counterfeit struggle, and phyto-sanitary control. Foreign trade is being developed intensively; of course huge amounts of fruits and vegetables are being moved; plants in hand luggage and commercial batches cause spreading of dangerous disease of vegetables and fruits with negative consequences,” Kushnirenko said.
