The International conference 'The Middle East: When Will Tomorrow Come?', organized by the 'Valdai' International Discussion Club, was opened in Moscow yesterday. The forum is being held in the format of an expert dialogue attended by politicians, scientists and diplomats from more than 25 countries.
According to the deputy head of the Council of the Russian Diplomats Association, Andrey Baklanov, the previous meetings organized by the Valdai Club were very effective: "Before the present meeting I checked the materials and wondered how many recommendations and forecasts coincided. In particular, the predictive development, which was made in 2010, coincided in respect of what then later became known as the 'Arab spring'. Today's meeting can provide a very good material for a greater understanding of the false situation which has arisen in the Middle East, and encourage countries to a clearer expression of the optimal course of action in this situation".
According to Baklanov, yesterday's meeting was very intensive due to the fact that the representatives of Israel, Palestine and several other countries have provided very different analysis of the origins of this protracted crisis in the Middle East, and their recipes were different as well: "There is a prevailing negative assessment of the international community's readiness to jointly fight against both the ideology of extremism and concrete manifestations of extremism in the form of an armed struggle waged by the gangs in Syria, Iraq and other countries".
The deputy head of the Council of the Russian Diplomats Association considers it necessary to seriously strengthen the role of the UN Security Council and establish regional authorities, which could permanently coordinate a number of Arab countries and other countries in the region in combating international terrorism.
