Islamic system of education requires major upgrade

Speaking about the trends of modern development of Islam in Russia, scientists and theologians have repeatedly stressed that the Russian system of Islamic education requires a major upgrade. There is a lack of competent, knowledgeable and canonically savvy religious leaders in the former Soviet Union. "The world does not have enough competent religious education, especially in the light of modern gluttony, hyper-consumerism and frequent emptiness in hearts and minds of people," the head of the scientific and theological council 'Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of European Russia', Shamil Alyautdinov, said.

He believes the socialization of the Muslims is necessary: "This is a very large number of people, about 20 million, 37 peoples and nationalities of Russia. This is a huge creative power. The creative unity of spiritual administrations, including the unity of spiritual administrations and the government, is extremely important to proclaim creative Muslim principles and values not only at the level of mosques, but also through public channels."

Alyautdinov explained that there are many Muslims in Russia, but not all of them attend mosques, therefore, it is necessary to involve the media to educate them: "We need information flows which would convey Muslim values of creative nature to the masses. Then a process of socialization will begin and people who started their religious practice would realize that it is not only about prayers and fasting, but also about an active position, studying better, qualified work, professional skills and the ability to take responsibility in the native Russian society."
