Middle East Eye: "The international community is concerned about the situation in Turkey"

The British publication Middle East Eye, specializing in analysis of events in the Middle East, wrote about the mistakes that have brought Turkey to the brink of civil war. The political situation in Turkey has been heating up in the last few months, and the reason for this was the country's leadership’s strategic miscalculations. Almost three years without military clashes with the Kurds are in the past, and the elections scheduled for November 1st are likely to be rescheduled or even indefinitely postponed, and this will further aggravate the infighting and the flourishing of violence in the state.

The situation in the south of the country is already critical: a state of emergency and a curfew has been imposed in many areas. Nationalist protests have erupted across the country, and the main political parties cannot agree on a joint plan of action. According to analysts, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party have chosen the path of chaos for the country, but exactly this mode allows them to remain in power.

The political instability has led to an increasingly aggressive nationalist rhetoric in Turkey. However, attempts to remain in power by force are unlikely to lead to positive results. Despite the fact that the current President of the Republic of Turkey is making every effort to unite the Turkish people around the AKP,  more and more citizens of the Republic are dissatisfied with the current events. The international community is already concerned about the situation in Turkey and calls on the authorities to resolve the situation in the country as soon as possible.

The Turkish leadership hopes that the parliamentary elections will change the situation, but it will be extremely difficult to hold them in the current situation of escalating violence. If the elections never take place, as is being suggested by a number of European analysts, there is a danger that the tensions will result in public demonstrations on the streets of Turkey, and perhaps even ethnic conflicts will break out across the country. If events develop in this way, it is likely that Turkey will face the fate of Syria, beset by civil war, in the very near future.

The US publication National Interest wrote about the significance of the deal on Iran's nuclear program. The nuclear agreement between Iran and the negotiating states must ensure  regional security and lay the foundation for overcoming many international threats. But critics of the agreement say that the deal would be considered successful if the sanctions against Iran were maintained. But such a scenario would be impossible without an escalation of the tensions between the US and Iran. In addition, the US administration reserves the right to re-impose the sanctions in case Iran violates the conditions of the treaty, even without the consent of Russia and China.

Despite the threat of strengthening US influence in the Middle East, the Iranian leadership is waiting for confirmation of the nuclear agreement by the US Congress, as a subsequent lifting of sanctions is essential for a stabilization of the country's economic situation. In addition, Iran will be able to sign lucrative deals with many international partners, including the countries of Europe and the United States. However, despite all the positive aspects of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, Iran's leaders insist that the US presence in the region should be reduced to a minimum.

Of course, such a scenario is not acceptable for Washington. The White House has sacrificed its partners, Israel and Saudi Arabia, just to have a chance of increasing its influence in the Middle East. The way the events will unfold is still unknown, but it is obvious that there is not only US will to overcome the threats to global security in the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, but also a desire  to take over the Middle East region, which is so attractive in terms of resources.
