The Russian Air Forces have started operations to destroy the positions of the terrorists of Islamic State on the territory of Syria, where the military conflict has been going on since March 2011 in which more than 220 thousand people have become victims. The government troops are opposed by units of militants who belong to various armed groups. The most active militants are from the extremist groups Islamic State and the An-Nusra Front. According to the Defense Ministry of Russia, several commander centers of militants, arms depots and armored vehicles with machineguns have been destroyed in the first two days of the operation in Syria. Meanwhile, the coalition headed by the U.S. has been continuing its attacks on the positions of ISIS since September 2014; yesterday military representatives of Russia and the U.S. were discussing the issue for an hour, including the question of how to avoid accidental conflicts during the operations by both sides in Syria.
On September 30th Russian senators supported the President’s call for the use of the Russian Armed Forces abroad by a solid vote. “Now the whole world is literally living in a historic moment, meaning that these moments are associated with the decision taken, and it is important for the whole world,” Riyadh Haddad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation, commented on Moscow’s activity. Whether we are going to deal with the law of the jungle, which is adhered to by all known states and stakeholders, including those interested in the oil wealth of the region, or the countries will act in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, the organization that was created to preserve peace and stability.”
Riyadh Haddad recalls that the coalition created by Washington has already existed for more than a year, and during this period the area or territory dominated by ISIS has increased: “The result of the ISIS actions have become murders, victims, people are forced to leave their native country. There have been attempts made to return human civilization back several centuries, and they are fraught with unpredictable consequences.”
The Syrian ambassador stressed that “the Russian military intervention took place at the request of the legitimate Syrian government, the authorities of this country, at the request of President Bashar al-Assad, who is the legitimately elected president of Syria. This formal request from Syria coincides and corresponds to the international legitimacy of the United Nations, and the Federation Council also agreed with this request, indicating that the democracy that the Russian leadership adheres to takes into account the circumstances of the situation.”
According to Riyadh Haddad’s data, “the number of terrorists has already reached tens of thousands in Syria, some of them are people from the Caucasus, Chechnya and some are from independent countries. Russian and Asian countries also face this danger. To confront it is the duty of all the countries fighting for sovereignty and territorial integrity. The past years have shown that the Syrian army is the only force that is opposed to terrorism and that is able to defeat it. We are now living at an historic moment, not only for Syria but for the whole of civilization and all those who stand for international law. Therefore, those who want to be guided by the law of the jungle, let them remain only spectators. And those who want to restore justice, to fight for the sovereignty of peace and security, must support Russia and oppose the evil of terrorism.”
