Russian electoral rights defenders unhappy about US elections

About 290 OSCE observers from 44 countries were present at more than 900 polling stations in the United States on November 8. But there were no observers from Russia among them. They received invitation to join the OSCE mission, but Moscow stated that these missions "usually don't take the opinion of Russian observers into account in the final reports" and, secondly, "Americans won't allow the mission itself to visit certain polling stations."

"Our association 'Civil Control' did not officially participate as an observer, and we express our dissatisfaction with the fact that the US authorities have denied Russian diplomats the right to participate in the observation. This is an unfriendly step. It also demonstrates that the US have a very archaic electoral system, and a number of states are not even prepared to receive international monitoring missions," co-chairman of the Association for protection of electoral rights 'Civil Control' Alexander Brod said.

"We sent several experts to various cities and we were in contact with our partner non-governmental organizations, which told us about the situation. First of all, there were problems with voter lists. In one of New York districts alone the electoral books included more than 6000 dead people. About 24 million of voters were registered with violations. A case in 'Columbus' business center in Ohio also caught our attention, where on October 3 worker of this center found dozens of sealed ballot boxes filled with ballots with votes for Clinton and her fellow party members," he noted.

According to him, agitation happened at many polling stations, computers broke down at some, there was even a shooting near one of station. Associations of American lawyers have received thousands of calls about violations. There were many violations in Pennsylvania, Florida.

Brod does not exclude the possibility that there will be "a lot of uncounted ballots, protests and provocations against Trump." At the same time, he expressed hope that "Trump will be able to form a cabinet of professionals and anti-Russian policy won't be so aggressive."
