Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra revives Russian spirituality in small towns

The state of spirituality and culture of modern people causes growing concern. People say that we're witnessing growing rates of degradation. Meanwhile, the very concept of spirituality in rejected by some people, while others consider it a part of cultural system of certain individuals. In the latter case, it is a combination of literary, scientific, moral, musical and other directions. Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, which currently gives concerts in Russian cities, considers spirituality an important part of life, which keeps people from moral degradation and self-destruction.

Artistic director and chief conductor of orchestra, Vladimir Fedoseev, believes that Russia's spirituality is concentrated in small cities: "You feel that your music is needed, Tchaikovsky is needed in every town. We were in Sergiev Posad, and it was very difficult to leave this city. People were grateful, they cried. They cried with joy, after experiencing live music. Russia is now being revived through these small towns. That's where great things begin. Years will pass, and we will raise that great bar of culture once again."

Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra's tour program, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of conductor, includes of Khachaturyan, Stravinsky and, of course, Tchaikovsky himself.

"We have two projects," cellist Boris Andrianov said, "one is called 'Musical Expedition', where we travel through cities, mostly in Vladimir Oblast, and hold concerts right on the streets. These concerts are for everyone. The other is called 'Generation of Stars', where we just travel around Russia, travel to remote places. We can see that there are no people that are not ready for classical music. People come from all surrounding villages. They go home from the field and get to the concert, not understanding what is happening at first, and then they are extremely grateful, saying that they didn't even know what it is before. We are reaching certain spiritual strings, and people don't even know what is happening. During Soviet times there was a system when musicians' tours were held all over the country. But now, unfortunately, this tradition got lost. But people are ready to accept real art.
