70 years ago, San Francisco became the cradle of a global change, where representatives of 50 countries gathered to develop and sign the Charter of the United Nations, pledging to work together to achieve peace, prosperity and respect for human rights. The status of the official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Russian, and the organization provides a platform where representatives of each country can express their views. The idea is that the UN should be a mechanism by which governments of different countries find common ground and work together to solve problems. However, experts believe that from the state where the UN Charter was signed 70 years ago, the threat of destruction is coming.
According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov, "the transition period in international relations associated with the formation of a polycentric world order was of quite a protracted character. It progresses pretty hard, competition is enhanced in all areas." Gatilov chided the US for attempting to preserve its dominant position at all costs, including through illegal, unilateral measures and unwanted pressure on a state.
"In this case, threats common for everyone do not become less ambitious, which poses the danger of increasing chaos and instability in the world. In the present circumstances there is a demand for such an international architecture that would facilitate the collective search for answers to the many challenges of our time. And it is obvious that today no one country or group of countries has sufficient resources for their long-term solutions," the Deputy Minister said.
According to him, the unique platform for the coordination of the international community in maintaining peace and security is the UN, which has universal legitimacy. But the steps being taken to circumvent the UN Charter multiply the chaos and uncertainty.
So the possibilities of the United Nations should be used to the fullest extent, Gatilov proposes giving up trying to use it as a tool for policy implementation of one state or a small group of states, "It is necessary to strengthen the authority and the ability of the organization to continue to carry out its central coordinating role in international relations. This, unfortunately, is not contributed by the US and made by the Western alliance's actions, which are led by their persistent efforts to advance in the key UN body, which is the Security Council, those decisions that benefit only their unilateral interests "
If these solutions to push their interests fail, the Western countries, according to Gatilov "unreasonably criticize the Security Council for failure to act, trying artificially to restrict the inalienable right of veto of the permanent members of the Council, and then to act in circumvention of the UN."
