What will Putin say in New York?

The speech by the Russian Federation President at the UN General Assembly session in New York is scheduled for September 28. According to his assistant, Yuri Ushakov, Vladimir Putin wants to touch on key aspects of the international agenda in his speech, including the joint fight against terrorism. Moscow attaches great importance to the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and will insist for it to continue to play a coordinating role on all international issues on the agenda of international security.

Meanwhile, as suggested by a member of the Duma Committee on Informational Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, Alexey Kazakov, the UN General Assembly lost the functions that were once declared: "It is a department which gives legitimacy to any decisions carried out either in Europe or in the Middle East, and which justifies these events. Therefore, in my understanding, the visit of our president, as the leader of a strong and independent power, is more a courtesy visit and a demonstration of openness and a desire for dialogue on all issues."

Kazakov does not believe that the current Assembly is able to develop any decisions in an independent format: "Today there is a certain dominance, ideological, political, including over this assembly, we have observed it more than once in the process of meeting on various issues. That is why I can say that we should not hope for some independent position. But for the Russian Federation, for a strong state, for a state which is now actively building the Eurasian Economic Union, in other words generates a second economic field, it is very important to maintain open, friendly, partnership relations with everyone. I think that the visit of our president is a global demonstration of our openness and the desire for normal work with Europe and the West."

The MP complained that "today no one will evaluate the consequences of support for such anti-terrorist operations in the Middle East, which removed the strong leaders of the Middle East, and in Iraq, and in Libya, and which led to the current chaos, and to ISIS, and to the fact that we need to seriously discuss this fight, although unfortunately it will not receive an adequate assessment, just like the situation in Ukraine. But I am sure that the tone of our President will remain the same, we are ready to cooperate, we are ready to work, but we ask to respect Russia's sovereign interests both in the West and around the world."
