The story of the Greek hero Prometheus will come alive on the stage of Ingushetia. The State Folk Dance Ensemble "Ingushetia" has already started rehearsals led by Issa Gadaborshev. The premiere of this production is planned for March 27, according to the project's mastermind Peter Kruger.
The renowned German director is not new to the theatrical world of Ingushetia. In 2004, Kruger staged in Ingushetia a performance based on the anti-war play by Bertolt Brecht, "Mother Courage and Her Children". He believes that theater can make a significant contribution to make the muses, not the cannons, speak in the Northern Caucasus. In the autumn of 2012 the team of "Bart Studio" organized and conducted "German Days in Ingushetia" and "Days with Bertolt Brecht" with the German director. And here comes his new project - "Prometheus in the Caucasus".
The performance is based on the 2,500-year-old text by the Ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus. Prometheus' story resonates with the Ingush legend of Pkharmate - a Nart who stole fire for the people, so the action is happening in the Caucasus. "Everything we do here is telling a beautiful tale", says Peter Kruger.
- We show two different worlds: on the one hand there is a pantheon of gods, on the other - the world of men."
A Vestnik Kavkaza reporter visited one of the rehearsals. Ancient drama involves a lot of dancing. The graceful dancers of the ensemble "Ingushetia" portrayed Oceanids hovering under blue waves - nymphs, daughters of the Titan Ocean. The choreography is completely original. "I'm surprised at how they grasp everything. Working with them is a real pleasure, though I expected difficulties. The movements are new for them. The guys work with great dedication, despite their busy schedules," Peter Kruger noted. He assured that Ingush national dance elements will be present in a particular part of the production. All the action is accompanied by mysterious, futuristic music by the German composer Carl Orff. Generally, it is a German tradition - using in productions many elements of choreography, pantomime and oratorio.
The director studied at the Berlin Theatre Institute and is a professional actor. He played and directed a lot, danced in rock musicals. Since 1975 he has worked as a director. "Germany is interested in what we are doing today. At one of the parties I showed the records of rehearsals to my theatrical colleagues in Germany. They showed great interest in showing the play in Berlin," said Peter Kruger. In the meantime, work on the show - a bizarre combination of German gothic culture with Ingush national identity - is in full swing, involving the creative forces of the Republican Youth Theater and the Sovremennik Theater.
