Venice to screen "Walking the Streets of Moscow"

The Venice International Film Festival is going to be held in Italy on August 27 - September 6, 2014. About two dozens cinematographic productions from all over the world (the US, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Japan, China, Turkey, Iran and Russia) are going to be screened in the competition section of the event. Russia will be represented by Andrey Konchalovsky's "White Nights of Postman Alexey Tryapichyn". In addition to films competing for the main prize, a number of classic movies will be screened at the festival. Among them will be "Walking the Streets of Moscow", a 1963 Soviet film directed by Georgy Daneliya.

50 years after its creation the movie will compete for the Classics of Venice prize.

Cinema critic and one of the organizers of the Moscow International Film Festival Pyotr Shepotinnik believes the Russian movie will be screened at the event because it is a true European movie. "The movie makes you experience an open space of the epoch, which gave birth to many talented artists. Every episode of the film demonstrates our most famous actors and actresses - Lev Durov, Inna Churikova and many others. Evey little bit of this movie is spectacular. It is not just because it's interesting to watch those days Moscow, it is so because the film is very pervasive, very profound. This is a true European movie. The cameraman's work is splendid. Every shot is marvellous. I believe the film will receive a warm welcome in Venice this year," he said.

Yevgeny Steblov, who played one of the main roles in the movie, told Vestnik Kavkaza about the history of the picture. The film was shot when Steblov was a second year student and it was his first leading role. "Before that I acted in the film "First Trolleybus". Of course I was very lucky to get this part. It was not only a lead in a movie, which all young actors dream of, it was a part in a movie which captivated me. It was a whole new world. A world of Gennady Shpalikov's poetry and Georgy Daneliya's directing work, Vadim Yusov's camera work and Andrey Petrov's music. At first I did not even understand how great it was, because we made it very easily. Almost all the scenes were made in the first shot. At least those scenes I played in," the actor said.

According to him, "Walking the Streets of Moscow" is one of Russia's first impressionist films. "There is nothing social in this film, except may be for pioneer's tie on children. There is no complicated script. It is a film about emotions. These emotions are an anticipation of happiness," the actor said.

Vestnik Kavkaza also asked the actor how his life is connected to the Caucasus. "I've been to the Caucasus many times," he said. "I love the people of the Caucasus. I am very emotional and irrational myself. The people of the Caucasus are like that as well. That is why I understand them." Steblov also said that he was very fond of Georgian cinema. "I have very tender feelings towards Georgian cinema. One of the reasons is that Georgy Daneliya picked me for his film. This means that he felt it as well. I guess the people of the Caucasus are more emotional, more open, more irrational. May be that is why we got along so well."
