The 155th anniversary of Kosta Khetagurov, an Ossetian poet for conscience, ethic values and patriotism in the Caucasus, was marked on October 15. A Tsereteli gallery opened on Prechistenka in Moscow, dedicated to the works of the great Ossetian poet, playwright, artist and public figure. It was entitled “Kosta Khetagurov. Link of Times.” The exhibition will be open until October 26, 2014.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli said “One of the strongest art schools is the Caucasus school. Small but very talented nations. They are strong by preserving their traditions and history: that is songs, clothes, cuisine, literature, painting and even the gait. It is very valuable today when the Russian school has risen. Our Caucasus brothers present themselves very well, they have their own, unique, special style. Europeans visit, look and are surprised: “How do they do that?” During the times of socialist, grinding out, thinking was identical. But the Caucasus preserved its uniqueness. Now, I am very pleased when I look at you!”
North Ossetian ex-President Alexander Dzasokhov told Vestnik Kavkaza: “The enormous poetic talent and wisdom of Kosta Levanovich Khategurov somewhat overshadows his bright gift as a painter. This is why we are happy today that on the 155th birthday we have an opportunity to look again and get amazed by canvases made by the great master, humanist and poet. The works of Kosta, we can say, were made with the paints of his heart , a restless heart always in search for justice, a heart that greatly loves humanity.”
USSR People’s Artist Svetlana Adyrkhayeva noted the contribution of Khetagurov to the history and culture of North Ossetia: “The art of Kosta Khetagurov simply cannot be evaluated, it is our pride, it is our glory, it is everything for us. Every Ossetian has been studying verses of Kosta Khetagurov since childhood. It is very valuable for us.”
