Azerbaijani Pantomime Theater in Russia

The Azerbaijan State Pantomime Theater has concluded performances in Moscow. Cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan has old traditions, and they have brought collaboration to an even higher level in the last years. Russian audiences have seen the jazz, variety and national art of Azerbaijan. Russia demonstrated theater performances to Baku.

The Pantomime Theater is one of the best in Azerbaijan. The unique genre it works in proves that true art has no barriers, it is international.

Bakhtiyar Khanyzadeh, the chief director and the art director of the Azerbaijani Pantomime Theater, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the theater has existed in Baku for 20 years and had staged many performances: Zaur Zeynalov’s “Mask,” Chingiz Aitmatov’s “Mankurt” and “The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years.” Khanyzadeh noted that the play of that day was very complicated, as it was not staged following Aitmatov’s line. “It is the spirit of the time, the idea seems very real to me today. The idea is mine, but the director of the play is my actor Dzheykhan Dadashev.”

Azerbaijani Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbulogly told Vestnik Kavkaza that Moscow was one of the world theater capitals and Russian audiences are very discerning: “It was very nice that audience present in the hall gave such a warm welcome to our actors in the first play. It was very joyful for me that the theater was indeed at an international level. The actors playing their roles with such sincerity, such high mastery, that they could not be left without applause. The audience shouted “Bravo!”, “Encore!” yesterday, and we, like all Azerbaijanis, were very delighted that our theater was at such a level.”

The guest performance of the theater was organized with support from the Russian Culture Ministry and the Ministry for Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.
