World rhythms in Moscow

The Izvestia Hall in Moscow hosted the 10th International Evening “Moscow in the Rhythm of Peoples of the World", an ethnic show focused on strengthening interethnic peace in the city.

Alexey Drozhzhin, deputy director of the Moscow House of Nationalities, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the tradition of the festival had been started back in 2004. “We have over 20 groups, 16 nationalities. I think it is one of the brightest international events in Moscow to unite young people, tell them about the cultures of other peoples. It is a brilliant unique event on a city-wide scale organized by the Department for Interregional Cooperation, National Policy and Contacts with Religious Organizations in Moscow, the Moscow House of Nationalities and, of course, the ethnic public of Moscow City,” said Drozhzhin.

He believes that “The prospects for such events in Moscow are great because young people have always been interested in their origins and own traditions. When they mix with modern music, it is twice as interesting. When you can show yourself, watch others, it is always some miraculous unique experience that can be passed on to others and taken by yourself.”

The concert program included songs and dances of Russian regions, neighbouring states and faraway states. Melodies and rhythms of Central Russia, the North Caucasus, Siberia, the Baltic states, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Central Asia, Poland and Greece did not leave anyone pococurante.
