This time, the organizers of Fashion Week have set themselves apart from the politics and have arranged a real fashion show. They have mustered the support of international organizations and gained a license. The main sponsor of this show was the leader of Georgian aviation, the company “Airzena”. Unfortunately the company obtained permission for several charter flights to Moscow only after the list of models was approved. And so Tbilisi citizens didn’t see Russian models on the podium.
The thing is that according to the traditional but not politically correct requirement of the European partners, models of European appearance (for example Slavonic) should take part. Otherwise the Tbilisi Fashion Week would not have obtained an international license.
The organizers followed the instructions and invited Ukrainian models to take part in the show. Thank God, there are regular flights from Tbilisi to Kiev.
“We are sure, that due to the Georgian Fashion Week, Georgian fashion will go global,” said the head of the press center of “Airzena” Nino Giorgobiani.
“We are witnesses to a new era in the history of Georgian fashion,” said the director of the fashion house “Natali”, Nata Samadalashvili. The Georgian Ministry for Culture and Sport has confirmed the information that this show was patronized by the government, to show the international community Georgia’s readiness to meet the international standards in the prestigious sphere.
The show was organized at a very high level. The organizers stuck to a strict dress code; men were dressed in dark suits and ladies in evening dresses. The show was covered by the media, so the audience of all national TV channels could see that Georgian celebrities follow the new tendencies in fashion.
The show did pass without incident. One of the models got tangled in her dress and fell over on the catwalk. One gallant gentleman helped her to rise, the audience was applauding and journalists reminded everyone that “this happens in Paris and Milan as well.”
According to VK’s information, the organizers argued a lot about the type of the show more suitable for Georgia – an American one or a European one. According to US tradition, fashion shows are carried out among tables served with food and drinks. But taking into consideration Georgian feast traditions, the fashion show could have turn into one big feast with “tamada”. This is why the European tradition of fashion shows was chosen.
Within the frames of the Tbilisi Fashion Week were organized fashion-rooms, in which were demonstrated collections of the 18 Georgian and 3 European designers, including Zenka@Mari and Avtadndil. So the first Georgian Fashion Week was successful, and the show was covered by foreign magazines, including the real giants of the fashion industry, FTV Vogue and Elle.
