According to results of the parliamentary elections which took place in Israel on March 17th, first place was taken by Likud, headed by Premier Benjamin Netanyahu. The new government will be formed by May 7th. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry has already stated that Moscow is ready to develop “diversified mutually beneficial relations” with the future Israeli government in keeping with traditional friendship and mutual respect. Russia considers Israel as “a partner who plays a significant role in the international arena.”
Meanwhile, in September 2015 Dorit Golender, the ambassador of Israel to Russia, will leave Moscow. She stated at a press conference in the Russian capital that when she was appointed to the position five years ago, she decided that development of trade and economic relations would be a priority.
“Trade and economic contacts between our countries are growing stably. It doesn’t depend on elections, as I believe Israel and Russia consider development of cooperation in various spheres important. We witness extension of cooperation in the sphere of medicine and medical equipment, construction of the pharmaceutical factory of CEVA in Russia. There is a great interest in Israeli agricultural products,” Golender said.
She noted that turnover between Russia and Israel is constantly growing. “Intergovernmental commissions and the regions which I have visited have contributed to the improvement of contacts and building bridges between businessmen and companies, which cooperate perfectly. I think more than $3 billion is a significant figure for such a country as Israel. I’m sure the tendency will increase.”
