Fund indexes and the ruble have started dropping, and wisecrackers have started predicting a switch from Russian winter to the Arab Spring after a crackdown on right and left protesters unsatisfied with the parliamentary polls.
Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the CPRF, believes “that the elections were dirty beyond comparison, with unprecedented pressure and a well-functioning falsification mechanism”. According to calculations of the CPRF, with 60% of the electorate voting, United Russia received 50% votes, although only 25-30% of people voted for them. “This is why they credited themselves with 12-15% votes. What is 35% of half of people attending? It is a quarter of the minimum that supports them. This means that the course realized by the party does not receive support”, Gennady Zyuganov says. The CPRF headquarters is collecting violation facts, is preparing a document for the court and hopes that the elections in regions will not be recognizes due to “mass, total falsifications of the people’s will”.
Zyuganov believes that “the United Russia has had a crushing defeat which is not reflected in the number of votes but in the lack of real proposals or even the agenda for the next 6 years”. “The illegitimate government in the crisis would no doubt bring a paralysis and cause major repercussions over the smallest of challenges”, Zyuganov fears. He says that the parliamentary polls were held on the background of the global financial recession, which demonstrates that “the government and the parliament are in a deep hole”. “We ended up last in the G20, just as last in the BRIKS among oil states”, Zyuganov continues. The CPRF leader believes that the situation needs development of new programs to cope with the crisis and active debates on the programs. Such debates only happened on the Russian television.
Concerning formation of a coalition in the parliament, Gennady Zyuganov insists that “any coalition is formed basing on key proposals”, the point of proposals of the United Russia in the financial policy is “further sales of property, turndown of support for science, agriculture and regulation of prices”. At the same time, the CPRF leader underlined that the party is willing greatly to cooperate with opposition. He believes that communists could supervise the parliamentary committees for education, science, modern technologies, industry, agrarian policy, aviation and security. Zyuganov called for an expansion of parliamentary control over the executive authorities. He introduced Ivan Melnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the CPRF, as candidate for parliamentary speaker.
Melnikov himself said that the CPRF doubled its presence in the lower chamber of parliament since 2007, receiving over 90 mandates, yet still remains unsatisfied. “Lack of our victory is a direct result of lack of fair, free, democratic elections in the country”, he says, pointing out the tendencies that, according to the communists, were set by the elections. The first tendency is that the United Russia has begun the path of losing its presence. The second tendency: rising support for the CPRF, including support from youth and scientists.
Sergey Obukhov, Secretary of the CPRF Central Committee, says that the polls show that the CPRF is supported by a large mass of population in the country. He urged all opposition parties to support Zyuganov as a single candidate of opposition at the presidential polls against Vladimir Putin.
