Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded that ministers in his government stop commenting on the expected supplies of the Russian surface-to-air missile systems S-300 to Syria and called to task ministers Steinitz and Ya’alon who had commented on the situation.
Political observers saw in this demand by Netanyahu one more confirmation that official statements by sides and information that Israeli and Russian leaders “agreed on all issues and both are satisfied” shouldn’t be considered as reliable.
Rumors in journalist circles of Israel stated that Netanyahu talked to the Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and the Minister of Strategic Planning Juval Steinitz and was furious about it. Premier accused ministers of “spilling the beans.” (We remind you that Steinitz accused Russia of providing “irresponsible policy in the Middle East,” while Ya’alon stated that “Israel would find an adequate response to the Russian demarche”). According to Netanyahu, publications of the Western mass media that Russia rejected the deal on supplying S-300 to Syria brought huge damage and made the Russian Foreign Ministry make a contradiction.
“The deal on S-300 has been signed, and Russia as a responsible side will definitely fulfill its promises. At the same time, Syria hasn’t got the S-300 yet, and it is unknown whether it will get them. When the systems reach Damascus, we will talk about this. And now keep silence!” Netanyahu supposedly said at the meeting with ministers.
