Samed Seidov, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for International Affairs and Inter-parliamentary Contacts of Azerbaijan, visited Israel as part of the celebration of Azerbaijan Independence Day, which was organized by the international association Israel-Azerbaijan (AzIs) together with Heydar Aliyev Fund and the Foreign Ministry of Israel.

Seidov met the head of the inter-parliamentary commission Israel-Azerbaijan, MP Amnon Coen, and the chairman of the Israeli parliament, Yuli Edelstein. They talked about an improvement of cooperation between Knesset and Milli Mejlis and the coordination of actions in the EU, the EP, and other international organizations.

According to the officials, the importance of such cooperation is related to demarches of some European politicians, which directly touch on interests of both nations, as is happening at the moment over the EP’s recommendation to ban circumcision in the EU countries.

Yuli Edelstein asked the Azerbaijani guest to send best wishes to his Azerbaijani colleague, the speaker of Milli Mejlis, Oktai Asadov, and congratulate President Ilham Aliyev with the victory in the presidential elections.

Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu tols Samed Seidov: “Your visit to Israel confirms that relations between our countries develop in a right direction, and we should go on further intensification of the relations and development of many-sided mutually beneficial cooperation.”

Seidov also met MPs of Knesset from various political parties of Israel. Israeli Communists noted that the atmosphere of the meeting with Samed Seidov and the discussion problems confirmed improved positions of Azerbaijan in the system of political and economic priorities of Israel. Today when importance of development of Israeli-Azerbaijani relations is obvious for all parties and power structures of the Jewish state it is difficult to believe that 10-15 years ago Azerbaijan was terra incognita for the majority of Israeli politicians.
