Moscow demands justice for Khojaly

Moscow has hosted a memorial evening devoted to 22th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy. the night of 25 to 26 February, 1992, 613 civilians were killed in the town. Opening the evening in the Russian capital, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, said that the international campaign "Justice for Khojaly " was launched in Moscow five years ago  and its main goal is to tell the world the true information about the tragedy.

"Documentaries and feature films based on the investigation records are devoted to the Khojaly trajedy, books are written and collections are composed,” says Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu. "Azerbaijan Embassies in foreign countries, the diaspora and youth groups also hold events on this mournful day. For many years the world has not heard of this pain, and it remains a huge wound on the body of the Azerbaijani people."

Meanwhile, already on the next day after the tragedy, the world was exposed to footage of the Azerbaijani TV journalist Chingiz Mustafayev, taken from the scene of the Khojaly tragedy. The footage showed scattered bodies of killed people, those who tried to escape from Khojaly to Agdam, but had been overtaken by militant nationalists.
The commander of the helicopter, from which the video of the place of the Khojaly tragedy was made, Major Leonid Kravets, says: " 22 years ago my crew was the first to discover the tragedy. We still saw people alive. There is a mountain  between Agdam and Khojaly, which had been snow-covered and green just a day before, and at 10 am the next day , when we were flying over it, we saw many corpses. When we dropped below, we saw that these people were still being shot at. We started to be shot at.
We flew to Ganja, made a report, and the next day Chingiz Mustafayev’s group flew from Baku to take footage. It was short. We were not allowed to sit, we were at the site for 4-5 minutes, and the shelling started, so we barely had time to save a group of Chingiz.
In one necropolis I read the words: "We are alive until we are remembered on earth." As a Ukrainian, I am not indifferent to the pain of the Azerbaijani people, the wound that does not heal.
I am grateful to the organizers for what they do, because human history is a history of wars. There is the 21st century, and bloodshed still continues. These people cannot be resurrected, but the fact that the Azerbaijani people remember this tragedy, and will always remember it, is noble. And the souls of those people feel this."
