Georgy Kalatozishvili, Tbilisi. Exclusively to Vestnik Kavkaza
While visiting Tbilisi for a few hours, the President of France supported the efforts toward European integration of the Georgian authorities and made it clear that Georgia couldn’t count on anything more than signing the association agreement with the EU.
President Hollande said that he was one of the initiators of the advance signing of the association agreement between Georgia and the EU, which will take place in June.
However, he made it clear that accession to the EU is a prospect in the far future, and at the upcoming NATO summit in Wales the question of issuing a MAP to Georgia won’t be considered. “We don’t want to deal with abstractions which could destabilize the situation,” Hollande emphasized, hinting at a negative reaction from Moscow.
At the same time, he called Abkhazia and South Ossetia “occupied territories.” He promised to continue the policy of their non-recognition and accused Russia of violating the agreement signed by Dmitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy on August 12, 2008.
