The world continues marking the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI. Politicians, philosophers and religious figures see analogies with the modern world. Patriarch Kirill, who visited the Memorial Park Complex of Heroes of the World War on the day of the 100th anniversary of Russia joining the war, said that the day was pushing two worlds together: the secular one shining with divine beauty, and the black, the diabolic. “Wars have not brought a single conqueror to virtuous goals. Time has cleared and destroyed all their achievements. The main result of the First World War is the formation of states that took the path of rejection of the spiritual root from social life. It is this path that caused the sense of threat of an imminent big war, and we must remember that humanity will either live from the fruit of the spirit, limiting our flesh, or not exist at all.”
Vladimir Zhirinovsky gave his evaluation of the events that happened a hundred years ago. But he gave it as a Doctor of Philosophy, not as the leader of the LDPR: “All wars, revolutions are started by bosses. They give orders to fight. People know nothing, understand nothing. We did not understand what we were fighting for in the First World War… The Russian tsar needed to emphasize the Caucasus. Judenic was leading his army and could bring it to Constantinople from the East. Why go against Germany, threaten Berlin? This is the aspect to discuss all these issues in. We understand that you cannot go back, but there is a certain setup today. Today, you can start a war, or you can prevent it.”
Speaking of the modern situation in Ukraine, Zhirinovsky said: “Let’s say Donbass and Luhansk submit to Kiev, this is one setup. Let’s say Donbass does not submit, a much more bloody war starts. And if it submits, would it not start a war against Crimea, would we not lose again? How do we make forecasts here? I think that the goal is not to repeat well-known historical facts and find something that has barely been described in textbooks, scientific papers or historical documents. To try to see whether we helped ourselves by helping Orthodox Serbians in France during the First World War?”
In Zhirinovsky’s words, it was thought that “if we do not help France, Germany would quickly destroy France and push at the Empire with all its might. I am a believer that France should not have been supported. We are a self-sufficient state, we fear no sanctions, no one can ever beat us on our space. We will give no reasons. There is no need for such extreme variants as “all or nothing.” The most important thing is to prevent the deaths of soldiers, threats. Otherwise, sacrificing millions to raise the flag somewhere, then the flag will be torn off? What is the point of that then? If it is for the flag, it is for eternity!”
