Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed alertness over Moscow’s attitude after Russian agricultural surveillance service Rosselkhoznadzor banned imports of food from about 20 Belarusian enterprises for allegedly carrying ASF genomes, microbes and antibiotics in products. RIA Novosti reports that Moscow demands a ban on the transit of food from Western countries through Belarus. “The conduct of our eastern native brother today worries us. But we draw no conclusions at the moment, neither do I, until we talk with the president of Russia,” said Lukashenko at a session of the Belarusian Security Council in Minsk on Tuesday. He emphasized that the main threats to Belarusian security were in the economy. The president reminded that the economy of any country is a very dangerous target for a hit, especially for an export-oriented one and especially in the current situation.
Russian Ambassador to Minsk Alexander Surikov said that Belarusian enterprises will fully renew shipments of food to the Russian market before December 20.
In his words, the Union State of Russia and Belarus became a unique integration union in post-Soviet space. “Strengthening of the Union State is our response to attempts by adversaries to undermine friendship between brotherly nations.”
Leonid Slutsky, a member of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, the head of the Duma committee for CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and contacts with compatriots, said: “The ending of 2014 was symbolic for the Union State. New programs were formed. The order of formation of the Union State budget was adopted at the 47th session of the Parliamentary Assembly in Sochi. The executive and the legislative authorities were working as close as never before.” He believes that 2014 proved the leadership of the Union State and its Parliamentary Assembly session in Eurasian integration.
According to Slutsky, “The Union State was created a lot earlier, it tried out integration programs, problems, including formation of the parliamentary dimension of integration processes, much earlier. In the near future, formation of the parliamentary element will happen in the EaEU, analogically to similar large regional associations formed earlier, such as, for example, the European Parliament.”
