Azerbaijan will develop nuclear power and technologies. The National Center for Nuclear Studies under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies is operating in the country. It was established by order of President Ilham Aliyev on May 8th, 2014.

Region Plus cites the head of the Center, Adil Garibov: it is reasoned by high demands of the growth economy of Azerbaijan in the future. At the same time, alternative energy sources which are being developed in the republic are not able to cover the demands in comparison with nuclear technologies. “Our task is not to build a nuclear power station as soon as possible” Garibov explains. “Azerbaijan has rich oil and gas resources; and the NPS construction is not a short-term task for us. We are providing fundamental works today. I believe we need 20-30 years to build an NPS in Azerbaijan or even more.”

According to the head of the Center, to reach the goals it is necessary to develop nuclear technologies and staff potential. Moreover, Azerbaijan has no intention of using old reactors, as most of them use outdated technologies and they have a low level of security.

The scientist says that 15 ha of lands have been already allocated for construction of research reactors. The territory will include administration buildings, a DATA-center, other facilities of infrastructure for providing scientific works. The DATA-center will process information from the European Nuclear Research Center. The capacities of the Center will be expanded, while resources will be available for scientists who deal with nuclear energy studies.

A new greenhouse complex is opening in the republic, according to Dagestanskaya Pravda. Its area is 10 ha.

Dagestan provides itself with vegetables and exports most of them – 500-600 thousand tons. However, it happens only during the summer season; while in the cold period the republic’s market is full of imports. In this context it is necessary to expand facilities. 700 million rubles will be invested in the project. Every year the complex will produce 4 thousand tons of vegetables (3 thousand tons of tomato and 1 thousand tons of cucumbers).

The new greenhouse complex has foreign equipment which uses high-tech modern technologies which are used in such countries as the Netherlands, Israel and Spain. The project will be fulfilled in two stages: the first one has already been completed; the second stage is scheduled for 2015. The first high-quality tomato products will be produced on January 25th, 2015.
