Karabakh problem and economic breakthrough of Azerbaijan

Twitter, the short-message exchange service, is often used for broadcasting personal and public news. Yesterday the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who joined Twitter in May 2010, posted several short messages on his page, which touched on settlement of the situation over Nagorno-Karabakh and other key problems for Azerbaijan.

Ilham Aliyev is sure that Baku’s independent policy “based on national interests and national values, provides for the current realities of Azerbaijan.” According to the President, it results in great economic and social efficiency.

According to him, despite all the challenges "the Azerbaijani economy is developing successfully, and this development is underpinned by the reforms” which are being carried out in Azerbaijan. The country's industrial capacity increases with every year. “In 2014 we opened more than 230 new industrial enterprises, which had a positive effect on the elimination of unemployment and the development of our export potential,” Ilham Aliyev noted.

He stated that "social policy has always been the main objective” for the Azerbaijani authorities. "The Azerbaijani people will live in safety, and the well-being of our people will improve every year.”

Ilham Aliyev also stated that his country "is successfully going down the path of democracy, freedom, independence, progress and development.” In 2014 Azerbaijan has successfully completed all the tasks it faced. According to the President, developments in the area of international relations have also been successful: "Azerbaijan is recognized worldwide as a reliable partner and our opportunities for influence are expanding. Azerbaijan chaired the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, making a valuable contribution to the development of democracy and protection of human rights in Europe.”

As for the Karabakh settlement, Ilham Aliyev wrote: “The leaders of Russia, USA and France held consecutive trilateral meetings in August, September and October in connection with the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. I appreciate that and am grateful to these countries." Within the context of the meeting he also wrote that “Armenia does not want peace. All of its efforts are aimed either at not holding negotiations or at conducting them for the sake of imitation.”

It is true that the prospects of normalization of the situation over Nagorno-Karabakh seem to be hazy. Apparently, the longer the party of war in Yerevan delays a resolution of the conflict, the greater the economic gap between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be. For many years Armenian villages in the occupied territories stayed empty, tens of thousands of Armenians have had to leave their homes and went to other countries, trying to earn money. In the context of the collapse of the Armenian economy, the prosperity of Azerbaijan could be a natural solution to the problem of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. At the moment, the economic gap is so big that the Armenian people are able to make a choice between real life and artificially-created “enmity.” Probably many of Karabakh's residents will prefer prosperity and a promising future for their children in multinational Azerbaijan. Today millions of people are moving to more prospering countries, and nobody forbids Karabakh Armenians from living in their homeland together with their Azerbaijani neighbors, as they have been living with them together for centuries.
