On April 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that allows the transfer of Russian S-300 rockets to Iran. An Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman said delivery of this complex will contribute to strengthenin cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.
The Vice-President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, Konstantin Sokolov, says that the S-300 missile systems are only valid in case of military and police operations of NATO forces, in the first place from a maritime area. For example, as it was in Libya, when NATO planes were attacked, bombed. “The NATO forces' fighting resistance is very low, which is why they do not like to bear a loss, they immediately cease fighting. And the S-300 complex, in my view, is such a deterrent weapon that can really prevent a serious military-police operation against Iran,” Sokolov thinks.
He reminded that a few years ago, when Ahmadinejad was ruling the country, Iran attempted to arrange some internal revolution to destabilize the situation. But it turned out that the people quite united around their state leadership. By the way, an indicator of this was that at the next parliamentary elections there appeared an unprecedented large percentage of military figures. That meant that people gave their votes to military figures, realizing that the defense of their fatherland remained the main issue on the agenda of Iran. The old script, which was conceived from the inside, was broken for the moment. And now Israel and the world powers which contributed to this instability will be looking for some new script,” the expert thinks.
According to him, delivery of S-300 to Iran will cause serious discontent in the West where there is an attempt being made to create an enemy, an aggressor out of Russia. “We see that NATO troops are landing in Poland. That the NATO military forces are moving close to Russia's borders is quite obvious. This is purely confrontational pre-war propaganda against Russia,” Sokolov says, noting that it is necessary to understand it as a demonstration of readiness to defend our interests.
But the only question is, according to the expert, that this willingness be not only a demonstration, but “a whole complex of measures, preparation of the country, maybe even for severe external attack, and this includes, of course, not only the work of the armed forces, but the mobilization of various parties in the economic sphere, in the sphere of propaganda, in all internal services.”
