American evaluation of Georgian authorities

American evaluation of Georgian authorities
The US Embassy in Tbilisi, together with the USAID agency, has asked the GALLUP company to carry out a survey on attitudes to the current Georgian authorities.  The Americans probably wanted to know whether the leaders still supported by the USA have any credit among the citizens. The opposition has often accused the US of supporting the "regime of Saakashvili, hated by the people", and now Washington has decided to find out if Georgians really hate Saakashvili so much.

The sensational results of the survey were sent by the US embassy to the Georgian opposition and Moscow. Whatever the Georgian opposition says about "falsification" of other polls, nobody would believe that GALLUP could falsify the results.

About 1,500 people of different professions and ethnicities were interviewed in the capital of the country and other regions. As a result, 43% would support the ruling presidential party at elections if they took place now. Only 11% would vote for the Christian-Democratic Movement, 4%  - for Labor. Attitudes to the parties are very important now, as the Georgian constitution has already been changed from a presidential republic to a parliamentary one.

77% of the people asked evaluate the activities of Saakashvili positively, and 56% would like him to be prime minister in 2013 after his presidential term ends. Though everyone says "the West does not want a Russian scenario to repeat in Georgia", what people think should be taken into consideration. Saakashvili's personal rating is 51%, whereas his closest rival only gets 7%. The majority of the respondents still think that Saakashvili could solve the most topical problems of the country - territorial integrity and unemployment. It is easy to understand if you check the results of Saakashvili's activities - 98% said they did not give any bribe to get a document, permission or a license. Apart from destroying corruption, the achievements of Saakashvili tend to be the solution of the electricity supply problem, the fight against criminality, construction of roads and police reform. As for foreign affairs, 92% called relations with the US "good" and "positive", while 94% described relations with Russia as "negative". The results of the survey carried out by GALLUP  first of all upsets the opposition, as it shows that the opposition cannot propose an alternative project for the development of the country. There is a good proverb in Georgia: "A known trouble is better than unknown and unexperienced happiness". If this is true, why one should take risks and destabilize and change things just to get another group of people ruling the country?
