«Qui non est nobiscum, adversus nos est» (‘Whoever is not with us is against us’) - this Latin idiom is used as an epigraph to the article “USA: perverted ‘liberty’ ”, published by the ‘Azerbaijan’ newspaper yesterday.
The author of the material suggests that over the past 10 years the USA has ‘blackmailed’ the world by carefully arranged ‘leaks’ of important information more than once and he claims that the USA doesn’t have any moral right to be the leader of the modern world after the ‘lawless invasion of Iraq’, torturing of prisoners in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, refusal to sign the Kyoto climate protocol, introduction of troops to Afghanistan and triggering the world economic crisis. According to the author, US attempts to ‘export’ democracy have also failed.
The article gives an unflattering evaluation of the activities of such organizations as ‘Radio Liberty’, Amnesty International, Freedom House, Human Rights Watch and Transparency International and suggests an extremely high level of CIA influence over the media within the US itself. The author accuses the American political doctrine of intolerance to all other political ideas, and the USA itself of imperialism. The article gives a thorough review of the Iraq war and Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, stressing all the negative, ever-hideous aspects of US activity. The author also poses the question of the competence and ability of the US to control and maintain its economic ‘empire’, spread all over the world’s economic systems. The "Azerbaijan" newspaper's material also points out the defects of a US Congress that is prone to lobbying influences, thus feeding private interests of some business and political groups. The author also accuses American congressmen and the presidential family of corruption and immoral behavior, reflecting, as the article reads, the immoral position of US foreign politics.
To conclude, the author suggests that we are now witnessing the downfall of the US as a global political and economic leader.
