Israel is waiting for the return of its young mountaineer Nadav Ben-Jegud, 24, hoping that Nepali doctors were wrong and it is still possible to save his frostbitten hands. Nadav Ben-Jegud was supposed to become the sixth Israeli mountaineer (and the youngest one) to conquer Everest, but he has to stop only 300 metres away from his goal to help a Turkish mountaineer who was on the brink of death. Israeli sportsmen also helped a Georgian and an English mountaineer before that. During his 8-hour rescue effort Nadav Ben-Jegud alone managed to get to his Turkish colleague and pull him from under, and then a rescue helicopter transported them both to a hospital in Kathmandy.
Nadav Ben-Jegud’s hands got frostbitten and there’s a good chance that an amputation will be needed. As the young sportsman hoped to pursue career in mountaineering and therapeutic massage, losin his hands would be a major tragedy for him. So now literally all Israeli people hope that their medicine will be able to make a miracle.
