Ossetian Farn in Moscow

The Farn Festival of Ossetian culture was held in Muzeon Park in Moscow. The name of the festival has a meaning: when visiting each other, Ossetians traditionally wish “farna” to each other, wishing the most divine power of welfare and prosperity. Moscow has responded with reciprocity. Over 12,000 Muscovites visited the festival in 6 hours.

The mass festival was organized in an open-air format. The festival was split into different sections: master classes in national Ossetian cuisine, old-technology archery, exhibitions of handicrafts, a photography gallery about the natural beauty of Ossetia. In other words, every visitor had an opportunity to see the unique culture of an ancient nation. The park became a place where traditions met modernity.

The festival was organized by the Moscow government Department for Interregional Cooperation, National Policy and Contacts with Religious Organizations and the North Ossetian office in Moscow.

Moscow Vice Mayor for Social Development Leonid Pechatnikov noted: “The gathering of representatives of all Russian republics, all Russians peoples in Moscow is great. And this is the main function of the capital. Moscow brings all peoples in Russia together.”

North Ossetian Prime Minister Sergey Takoyev agreed: “People of different nationalities, including Ossetians, gather in Moscow, and the fates of millions of citizens are interconnected in Moscow. The biggest achievements our natives have made were mostly made in Moscow.”

Traditional Ossetian products were popular among Muscovites. Everyone wanted to get a box with a hot Ossetian pie. The festival was visited by socio-political, cultural and artistic figures.

Alexander Dzassokhov, the president of North Ossetia in 1998-2003, told Vestnik Kavkaza that he was especially happy to visit the festival and see many young people attending it. “It means that our traditions, our culture in Ossetia have a present and future. I think that many guests of the festival will get convincing confirmation that the future of our people in a big multi-ethnic state is certainly associated with Russia, the great Russian people and Moscow.”

Actor Vadim Tsallati told Vestnik Kavkaza that he had arrived for the festival in the morning and was exceptionally impressed: “Very many people are looking with great interest, they are opening something new for themselves. It is great.”

The festival concluded with a concert by Ossetian celebrities. Guests were amazed to see both exciting Lezginka and Russian national dances.
