Russian Muslims are for the Eurasian projectLess than a month is left until the functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union. At the moment Moscow is mostly discussing the economic component of the Eurasian Union. Nevertheless, the union project does not exclude the creation of united humanitarian and cultural spaces.Recently, the Chairman of the Presidium of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the European part of Russia, Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, said that citizens who profess Islam can help the state to develop Eurasian integration more intensively: “Currently, Russia has taken a tack to become one of the independent poles in the emerging multipolar world. The country's leadership in the person of Russian President Vladimir Putin is seriously concerned about the development strategy of the Eurasian project of close co-operation, as far as Eurasian integration is regarded not only as an economic project, but as a traditionalist project, it is in the spirit of the early Eurasians, it is possible to talk about the end of the East. The head of state claims this is a project of conservation of the historical identity of the peoples of the Eurasian space in the new century and a new world”.According to Gaynutdin, the healthy conservatism of the future Eurasian identity is in the protection of traditional values, ethical norms and principles of spirituality which are propagated by the main world religions. In addition, the believes that the project testifies to the ability of various ethnicities and religions to live together. He called it the “middle way”, when the life of a contemporary person is harmonically combined with practicing religion.“This course, declared by the Russian leadership, fully meets the realities of Eurasian civilization, as well as the aspirations of Russian Muslims and other groups in our civic society. We, Russian Muslims, at the same time feel ourselves to be part of a unified Muslim Ummah and citizens of the Russian Federation. It was no accident that the providence of the Almighty tied together our destinies, and now gives us another chance for being subjects of social and political activities to realize our potential as members of a large-scale Eurasian culture, its common history. I am convinced that in this way Muslims are able to show much greater activity, especially in the field of protection of Russian, national and pan-Eurasian traditional values,” Gaynutdin said.
