Young people to be attracted to the fundamental applied sciences in the North Caucasus

A reduction in the crime, corruption and unemployment rates would obviously help change the situation in the North Caucasus, but it is necessary to attract active groups in the region to this process, primarily the youth, to the modern and promising tendencies of greatest public importance that would bring tangible financial output. The Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, has spoken about this issue at a recent meeting with the scientific intelligentsia in Grozny.

At the moment, the number of young scientists in Chechnya lags behind other republics of the North Caucasian Federal District. For many years the republic has not been able to develop. According to the vice-president of the Chechen Academy of Sciences, Ibragim Kerimov, material stimulation is needed for the young scientists in the form of bonuses and cash incentives, as well as the creation of a national council of young scientists and specialists and annual national scientific and technical conferences for young scientists and specialists.

According to experts, the regional labor market in Chechnya is oversaturated, with specialists in “elite” professions, mainly lawyers and economists.

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Idilov, observes that the modern world makes the demand for such products as information technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology, and hence the development of production through investments in human capital has not lost its relevance. In this situation, the establishment of a technical university with the functions of a main coordinator of economic reforms in the republic is required.

Meanwhile, the scientists acknowledge the introduction of physics to the program of the United State Exam (USE) as a huge advantage. According to Karimov, this could encourage young people to chose technical professions. This year in Chechnya 12,250 people passed the USE, including 10,774 graduates of this year. According to the statistics, up to 999 people among the students did not pass one or two required exams.
