The first World Cup held on the African continent has become history. Comments regarding this event range from one extreme to another. Some speak about the serious criminal situation, critical errors by referees, scandals within teams, the terrible performances of the starting teams, the fairly average results and the terrible noise of the vuvuzelas. Others point out positive moments such as the perfect performances of teams in the final stages of the championship, brilliant offensive gameplay and the victory of the strongest team - the Spanish one.
There is truth in the evaluations of both sides. And I believe that there many places on Earth, where Europeans and US citizens would feel more comfortable and secure. But I've discussed the championship with friends who witnessed this great sporting event. For those who were in South Africa themselves, the importance of the "very first" World Cup on the "Dark" continent was obvious. Soccer is a great game which brings different people together and this championship has proved it.
Speaking about the champions, I must say Spain deserved the victory with its fantastic play. The "Red Furies" displayed the most interesting, aggressive and balanced play throughout the entire championship, including the lost match against Switzerland. The Spanish players dominated other teams during the games and made clear and thought-through passes. The Spanish team is a perfect team with star players.
It is safe to say that for the next four years the world has got a deserving champion.
