The first European Games will take place in the capital of Azerbaijan on June 12-28. Sporting events in 20 disciplines will be held in Baku: 16 Olympic kinds of sports and 4 non-Olympic, including sambo.
The head coach of the Russian national sambo team, Dmitry Troshkin, says that “four weight categories are presented at the prestigious competitions.”
Men:
Up to 57 kg – world-class athlete, prize winner of World and European Championships, Aymergen Akunov (the Sverdlovsk Region, Verkhnyaya Pyshma).
Up to 74 kg – the champion of Russia 2015, master of sports Azamat Sedakov (Stavropol Territory).
Up to 90 kg – an honored master of sports, multiple champion of the world, European and World Cups, Alsim Chernoskulov (the Sverdlovsk Region, Verkhnyaya Pyshma).
Over 100 kg – an honored master of sports, multiple champion of the world and Europe, Artem Osipenko.
Women:
Up to 52 kg – an honored master of sports, Anna Kharitonova, Moscow.
Up to 60 kg – a world-class master of sports, Svetlana Burtseva, the Perm Territory.
Up to 64 kg – a master of sports, Anna Shcherbakova, Buryatia,
Up to 68 kg – a master of sports, Olga Zakharova, the Kaliningrad Region.
For many years the scheme of qualifications has been the following: the champion of Russia goes to the World Championships, the silver medal winner goes to the European Championships. “The Executive Committee of the Federation decided that a selection to the European Games would take place at the Russian Championships. Those who become champions will go to the Games. They will also participate in the World Championships which will be held in Casablanca, Morocco, in November… The team has a combative mood; the goal is to take first team place and display beautiful wrestling,” Troshkin said.
According to him, the Executive Council of the International Federation decided to try new rules in 2015, according to which contests at the European Games would be held.
