Fuad Safarov, exclusively to Vestnik Kavkaza
Ali Ajar, the Mayor of Marmaris, one of the most beautiful resorts of Turkey and the world, invites Russian tourists to visit the wonderful town where history’s breath is felt.
Ali Ajar told Vestnik Kavkaza that “the Antalya region is a popular place among Russian tourists. It is even called “Little Russia.” The sun shines 300 days a year in Marmaris, which belongs to the region. The clear sea, developed tourist infrastructure, many trade and places of entertainment make the town a resort paradise. Moreover, Marmaris suits beach lovers, as well as tourists who prefer sightseeing and learn about local cultural legacy. Ruins of ancient cities, a fortress, tombs and mosques on the background of the beautiful landscape would touch the feelings of the most demanding adventurer.”
Ali Ajar invited Russian tourists to spend vacations in Marmaris: “Tourists from Russia are highly-cultured and educated people. Russia gave birth to such great people as Chekhov, Pushkin, Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky. I am sure that our Russian guests will be interested in the numerous historic monuments and sights which are situated in Marmaris and its neighborhood. There is another surprise: it is well known that the Russian audience loves “The Grand Century” TV show; several episodes of it were shot in Marmaris. According to historical data, in 1522 Sultan Suleiman Kanuni began his famous campaign against Rhodes from the Marmaris Fortress. The fortress was reconstructed. Climbing up to the fortress, you can see panoramic views over Marmaris. Some historic buildings were also constructed there, according to Sultan Suleiman’s order. The doors to Marmaris from “The Grand Century” are open to our Russian friends.”
