Today Robert Hossein, French film and theatre actor, director, producer, as well as the artistic director of the Marina Theatre in Paris answers the questions of Vestnik Kavkaza. His father was violinist and composer Andre Hossein (born Aminullah Huseynov), who fostered Robert's love of his historical homeland, and the famous director is interested in everything that is linked with Azerbaijan.
- What is the role of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Cannes in the popularization of the Azerbaijani arts of carpet weaving and music in France, in your opinion? How is their significance appreciated in general?
The role of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Cannes is to introduce people to the wonderful and inspiring classical and jazz music performed by orchestras of very talented musicians, as well as hearing the songs performed by men and women with incomparable and original voices. For example, an exhibition where magnificent carpets are presented is taking place now. For many years these carpets were in a museum, and now people can come and see them.
- The Heydar Aliyev Foundation is also implementing a number of projects for the conservation and protection of French art. How would you assess the activity of the Fund in this direction?
I was very touched by the wonderful work that has been carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation regarding the protection of the historical heritage of France. [In France, the Fund finances the reconstruction of the cathedral in Strasbourg and some objects in Versailles. In 2013, the Foundation supported the restoration of seven churches from the X-XII centuries. In addition, the fund helps to organize dance and jazz festivals in the towns of Aigle and Argentan – editor's note].
- How do such events in culture affect the rapprochement of Azerbaijan and France?
- I wholeheartedly wish that culture and art, whether a grand theatrical performance, or a film, conceived and made in cooperation, supports the strengthening of cooperation between our two countries. The results show that we hear and understand each other.
I heartily wish that our two countries, France and Azerbaijan, continue to cooperate in the humanitarian sphere, in the sphere of culture in the future.
